Goodell talks rookie cap and Jags are listening
A story that got very little play in the mainstream media over the past week targeted skyrocketing salary expenses for rookies coming into the National Football League in recent years. This singular issue could present the league as we know it today with a situation that could ultimately tear it apart if it is not addressed in the upcoming labor discussions.
By referring to the current situation as “ridiculous,” the NFL commissioner made it clear that rewarding untested rookies with exorbitant contracts needed to be at the center of any talks regarding the collective bargaining agreement.
Jaguars extend Spicer. Is Mike Peterson next?
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced late on Friday afternoon that they had reached an agreement to extend the contract of veteran defensive end, Paul Spicer. Spicer, who was in the final year of his contract, agreed to terms on a three year, $10.5 million extension that will allow him to remain with the Jaguars through the 2010 season.
Jags receiving corps could become quagmire for front office
It was not that long ago when the Jacksonville Jaguars would have sacrificed a baby lamb, given up their first born child, or made a pact with the devil himself in their quest to find a group of quality receivers to bolster their offensive machinery. Entering the 2008 preseason, the Jaguars will now be forced to make at least one or two difficult decisions that could send a quality player with potential to be a star off to ply his wares for another team. The position that the Jaguars are in would normally be an enviable one. But, each option available to the team has the possibility of providing the Jaguars not only with a great deal of reward, but an equal amount of risk.
This is why coaches and personnel men get paid the way that they do in the National Football League.
Jags coach looks to deepen community roots through new foundation
As the Jacksonville Jaguars enter the stretch of time between wrapping up mini camps and organized team activities and the beginning of training camp at the end of July, Jack Del Rio is initiating a new endeavor that will show his dedication to the local community, and to charities that are near and dear to his heart.
On Monday, Del Rio announced the formation of The Jack Del Rio Foundation. This foundation is a faith-based organization that will be used as a fundraising vehicle to assist charitable organizations with an effort to improve the lives of children in Northeast Florida.
