Someone very important was missing tonight from the Denver Nuggets' starting line up, and the Atlanta Hawks absolutely exploited his absence in their 109-91 victory Monday night. Denver went without big man and NBA field goal percentage leader Nene due to a sore neck from a fall in last night's 117-110 victory in New York. The Hawks manhandled the undersized Denver line up all night, beating them 44-27 on the boards and capitalizing on their many second chance opportunities. It was a game in which Denver's tempers flared and Mike Bibby's shots fell. The Nuggets became frustrated with the physicality of Atlanta's play, and Atlanta reveled in Denver's agitation. Bibby shot 5-6 from behind the three-point line, and he shot from WELL beyond the arc several times. News and Notes By Zach Harper Elton Brand Dislocates Shoulder During Wednesday night's game against the Milwaukee Bucks, Elton Brand jumped in the air when he bought on the Luc Richard Mbah a Moute pumpfake. When he came down, he tumbled over Mbah a Moute and awkwardly landed on the ground with his arm taking the brunt of the force. It caused his right shoulder to become dislocated and since he's human and not a cyborg, he had to leave the game. If he was Detective Riggs from the Lethal Weapon series, he would have run over to the staunchon, slammed his body into the corner of it, and popped that sucker back into place. He then would have taken a glock, unloaded 25 to 35 shots with a single clip, and saved the day from some drug dealers. Unfortunately, this isn't Lethal Weapon and Elton Brand is still...

Highlights ll BoxRemember back when the Cavaliers had their first winning streak of the season, the eight-game streak, snapped at Detroit and how fans were upset at the prospect of starting a new one?Well, that "new" streak ended up being a better one. And Cavs fans can only hope that Wednesday's 93-70 eyesore in the Twin Cities is the start of something even better.This was a little closer than the score indicates. Considering that the Cavs came in 20-4 while the Wolves were 4-20 and losers of 10 straight, you had to wonder what the hell Minnesota was doing down by just one at 57-56 with 3:27 left in the third quarter. Celtics Win 16th Straight In Atlanta

After watching that game, I had to check the date on my computer because I thought it was June all over again. This game had a playoff atmosphere right from the opening jump, but it did have its playoff-like choke at the end. With just over two seconds remaining on the clock with the Hawks trailing by two, Joe Johnson stepped to the line with a chance to tie it up and most likely send this game into overtime. He calmly knocked down the first free throw. The second, well... just see the picture above.This game came down to the final seconds, but every shot mattered, especially in the fourth quarter. The starting five, who ended up closing out the game, came to play tonight. The player of the game has to go to Kevin Garnett, who was a perfect five for five from the floor in the fourth quarter...

Wednesday night was a busy one in the NBA, and here's some teams and players that are on the move...Rising:Atlanta Hawks - Without Josh Smith, the Hawks' most complete player and best defender, the Hawks floundered after starting the season 6-0. He made his return last night against Memphis, and his presence opened up the floor for Joe Johnson and Mike Bibby, who combined to shoot over 65 percent from the field. Smith was active defensively from the start, finishing with a couple steals and a block in addition to 14 points, six rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes. Each NBA season features a few performers who exceed previous performances or expectations, and others who demonstrate that they are no longer able to contribute at the level to which we and they have become accustomed. Which players will cross either the positive or negative threshold this season, any why? Comers: LaMarcus Aldridge, F, Portland Trailblazers- While a 17.8 scoring clip and 7.6 rebounds�are nothing to sneeze at, L.A. accomplished these things in a lineup where much more was asked of him than will be this season.
